What is a domain name?

Wikipedia definition of domain name:

In general, a domain name represents an Internet Protocol (IP) resource, such as a personal computer used to access the Internet, a server computer hosting a web site, or the web site itself or any other service communicated via the Internet. In 2015, 294 million domain names had been registered.

Cheap domain names like yoursite.com can be purchased from companies like godaddy.com, name.com and not so cheap register.com with a phone call or on their website. Some like register.com because the extra cost has been worth it for the more important domains because their support turnaround is much faster.

A good support team can guide you through process of setup or do it for you.

It is better to set up the hosting account first  with a company like lunarpages.com. Then the web server is ready and you have the  ip address to  give when the domain registrar asks you for ip addresses for your name servers.

Lunarpages will send you an email with all the server information that you need to give the registrar.

Some hosts include a free domain but the annual renewal price is often three times what you will pay at a registrar so there is no bargain there. It is best to keep all your domain registrations separate from the hosting just in case you ever want to change host companies they cant hold up your domain transfer for any reason.

Most hosts offer unlimited addon domains throu your control panel, unlimited bandwidth and unlimited traffic for no additional fee. The only caveat is that there is a quota on CPU usage which may be exceeded in heavy traffic situations depending on your program’s imposed load.

GP Nodes(tm) requires linux/apache hosting and works best with lunarpanel or cPanel industry standard hosting.
